WTF League Overview
The Ultimate Tecmo Experience
The WTF League (Whole Team Football) is a premier online competitive football league that merges the classic, fast-paced gameplay of Tecmo Super Bowl with a sophisticated, modern front-office simulation. Designed for dedicated owners who enjoy both on-field execution and deep roster management, the league offers a unique historical journey starting from the 1966 season.
League Structure and Tiers
The league maintains a highly competitive environment through a specialized Divisional Tier System consisting of 15 teams divided into three levels:
- A Tier The Elite: The top flight where the league's best compete. The bottom two finishers are relegated to the B Tier each season.
- B Tier The Contenders: A mid-level battleground. The top two finishers earn promotion to A, while the bottom finisher is relegated to C.
- C Tier The Foundation: The entry point for new or rebuilding teams. The top finisher is promoted to the B Tier.
Playoffs and Championship
Success is rewarded through a structured playoff format that ensures every tier has a path to the title:
- Qualification: 6 teams qualify for the postseason—the top 3 from A, the top 2 from B, and the winner of the C division.
- Seeding: Teams are seeded 1–6 based on their division performance (1–3 from A, 4–5 from B, and 6 from C), with the top 2 seeds receiving a first-round bye.
- The Super Bowl: High seeds maintain home-field advantage throughout the brackets, culminating in a final showdown for the league championship.
Offseason and College Draft
Replenishing the roster is a critical part of the offseason. The league uses a unique draft order that rewards progress in lower tiers while preserving balance at the top.
Draft Order Logic
The order follows a tier-based logic designed to give promoted teams and lower-division champions a resource advantage. The C Division picks first, followed by B, and finally A.

Management Mechanics
- Dynamic Salary Cap: Manage a full salary cap system, balancing high-priced superstars with value players.
- Aging and Retirement: A realistic formula governs player decline and retirement based on age. Constant scouting is key as veterans lose their edge.
- Performance Gains: Elite performance on the field can stave off aging. Players meeting specific fantasy point requirements can maintain or improve their attributes.
Gameplay and Culture
Games are played online using a customized Tecmophile platform that tracks comprehensive statistics and manages save states.
- Rules of the Gridiron: We enforce strict "gentleman's rules" to ensure fair play, including restrictions on "lurching" and unsportsmanlike conduct.
- Grappling HP Hack: (Hitting Power Influence Modification) Adjusts how much HP affects grapple outcomes (e.g., making HP differences more or less impactful in winning grapples).
- Community Spirit: While the competition is fierce, we maintain a "medium standard" of fun. Post-loss "bitching and whining" is jokingly encouraged!
